Singkawang, Kalimantan

Singkawang, Kalimantan Angel and Caresse traveled to Singkawang, West Kalimantan to hold a seminar on Character building with 120 teachers from many regional schools. The teachers were so thankful for the help and each received a set of STEPS Character Building curriculum material to use with their students. They conducted events and gave away shirts and hats which inspired everyone. They hosted several inspirational meetings with parents and people from the area. Special thanks to One Team Foundation for their help with this program.

Return to Aceh

Return to Aceh Family Care Indonesia volunteers first arrived in Banda Aceh on January 2, 2005, just 7 days after the tsunami of December 26, 2004, one of the worst natural disasters of modern times. Now we’re back in June of 2013 a little more than 8 years since that first trip. We can’t help but reminisce and think back to that first trip and compare with now. This trip in June is very special to us; we were invited by a friend who we met after the tsunami to attend his daughter’s wedding. This was not any particular special social project but an opportunity to visit friends and see firsthand the fruits of our efforts. Some or our main projects in Aceh consisted of:

Return to Aceh

  • Disaster Relief Response, translations for medical teams and channeling of humanitarian aid
  • Boat building
  • 24 hour free medical clinic with ambulance for 2 years
  • Livelihood project, construction of restaurant and agriculture farm
We were happily impressed to see the progress made in Banda Aceh and generally there seemed to be an atmosphere of hope and vision for the future and we are thankful that we could play a part in this outcome.

Medan Medan Family Care Indonesia volunteers Pierre & Andre visited 6 orphanages in Medan where they distributed STEPS Character Building kits. Additionally they spent time interacting with the children and caretakers, giving the caretakers motivation and engaging in fun activities with the children. They also revisited “Sungai Air Hidup” Orphanage, who they assist materially on a regular basis, particularly towards the construction of a school for them.
