FCI and NICI visit Pulau Sembilangan

NICI (Nestle Indofood Citarasa Indonesia) along with Family Care Indonesia volunteers visited Pulau Sembilangan located in Bekasi Barat to paint the new school building Madrasah Aliyah. The 85 employees from the company who participated in the event were transported by 8 big boats. Rain or shine everyone is ready for an adventure with life vest, raincoats and umbrellas.

A variety of activities such as cooking, games, English classes, traditional music, arts and crafts had been prepared and were enjoyed by elementary and high school students.

The results of this event impacted not only the recipients but also the lives of those who participated in this event. Volunteers from the company expressed gratitude for the opportunity to experience something which will never be forgotten.

Thank you NICI (Nestle Indofood Citarasa Indonesia) management and all the hard-working employees for creating such a wonderful opportunity to work with Family Care Indonesia volunteers.

New Tiles for a New School

New Tiles for a New School

In mid-January 2012, Family Care Indonesia volunteers received the donation of 140m2 of tiles for a new school in Pulau Sembilangan.

Friends pitched in with transport and manpower and along with the Family Care Indonesia team they all worked together to load and unload the almost 4 tons of tiles to the boat in Marunda and the children at the school carried the tiles to the school building on slippery, muddy ground.

The tiles will be used to finish the newly built school building after which the new school will be in full operation for the students in this village.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to PT. Sandimas Reksakeramika Granito (NIRO Granite) for providing these much needed tiles and for making a wonderful and lasting difference to Madrasah Aliyah.

Trip to Timor Island

Trip to Timor Island

Family Care Indonesia member Angel along with a dear Korean friend Euna visited Timor Island where they joined Nicolas at two orphanages outside Kupang bringing needed supplies of clothing, shoes, school books, bags and supplies, toys and character building books for the children.

In addition to many needed supplies at the Sonaf Manekat orphanage they also helped with the paying of school fees directly to the schools where the orphans study.

Angel joined by Euna then held an educational seminar for teachers from thirty schools. The seminar’s theme was “Character Building” in the student’s lives. The seminar was a lively affair with talks, workshops and inspirational programs. Each teacher was left with a sponsored set of 20 books, teacher’s instructional book and a CD of songs to use with the children.

After programs in Kupang Family Care Indonesia volunteers traveled 7 hours across Timor to Atambua to the village school established by Family Care Indonesia members in that area. There they held a seminar for local teachers as well as those from surrounding villages introducing a new “Character Building” course. Angel also set up another new donated computer and library of reading books for the children. Security bars were installed on the windows of one of the buildings to keep the new books and equipment safe.

The last day at the school was spent with the children to encourage and inspire them as well as give them stationary and schooling needs.
